Thematic
Repertory
This study aims to offer to the Homeopathic
practitioner a careful selection of mental symptoms extracted from The
Complete Repertory by Roger Van Zandvoort and of the Pure Materia Medicas
of Hahnemann, Hering, T. Allen, H. Allen and full
symptoms from the new provings
by Jeremy Sherr, organized by thematic methodology.
More them 7,400 of The Complete's mental symptoms
are selected and more them 5,200 from the MMs above quoted. The symptoms
were selected based on the criterion of the Homeopathic peculiarity. No
rare, strange and peculiar symptoms were omitted. The Repertory and the
PMM symptoms were organized by nearly 300 mental themes. These themes were
created based on subjects which are found to be repeated in a number of
symptoms. Examples provided by Repertory and PMM's symptoms are used in
themes like being forsaken, death, disease, helplessness, among many others.
In the Kentian's repertories the mental
symptoms are listed in alphabetical order. Similar symptoms but with different
spellings are to be found listed far away of each other. The cross references
unfortunately do not provide all of the relationships between symptoms.
In the Thematic Repertory this type of limitation is done away with
because all interrelated symptoms are displayed under the same theme.
Under each theme we first show the Repertory's
symptoms and immediately below, the PMM's symptoms related to that theme.
This type of organization allows us to track the sources of the Repertory's
symptoms selected from the PMMs. Many symptoms and remedies additional
to the Repertory are suggested based on the careful study of the PMM's
symptoms. From the PMM's symptoms it can be seen that important interrelated
modalities are nevertheless split in the symptoms listed in the Repertory.
We know that very often a single PMM's symptom has a lot of Repertory's
symptoms but these are shown separately in the alphabetically-ordered Repertory,
without being cross-referenced. By looking at the PMM symptom as a complete
whole, as dealt with in Thematic Repertory, we can understand the successive
and consequent relationships among the Repertory's symptoms. The understanding
of that sequence brings in the psycodynamic dimension to the Homeopathic
remedies. Consequently we have a better possibility of understanding the
psyche of Homeopathic medicines. Thus
we can gain a better understanding of, and be in a better position to evaluate,
the sources of the Repertory's symptoms, by consulting and comparing the
Repertory against the PMMs.
